Disinfection FAQ

1.  Can Fiber-Seal Northeast kill Corona Virus?

YES! SmartTouch® solution that we use in our disinfection treatments has been rated by EPA as a Category 4 (the safest rating the EPA has), which states “no exposure warnings required on label”. It still achieves a 5-log kill of 99.999% in less than 60 seconds for bacteria like eColi, Salmonella and Listeria. It can be found on the EPA's N-list for solutions recommended in fight against Covid-19. Our product is EPA certified to remove a vast array of pathogens, including MRSA, H1N1, Coronavirus, eColi, Mold, Mildew and odor-causing bacteria, to name a few. SmartTouch® is also NSF rated (D-2) No Rinse Required on Food Contact Surfaces at full strength as it leaves no harmless residue.

2.  What is the difference between On Demand service and Maintenance Plans?

On Demand service is a one-time service for those who are responding to an immediate risk. Examples would be homes or offices that had someone recently diagnosed with Covid-19, athletic facilities that had members infected with MRSA, or immune-compromised people in temporary need of a germ-free space.

Our Maintenance plans offer treatments on a regular basis to mitigate the risk for longer period. Just like brushing your teeth helps keep cavities at bay, so does a regular disinfection of your whole space minimize the risk of transmission of disease-causing pathogens within your premises.

3.  How frequently should I use your service?

The higher traffic areas call for higher frequency of treatments. Ultimately this will depend on your budget and goals. Some businesses opt for weekly or bi-weekly treatments, while others, including most homes, choose monthly or quarterly service.

4.  What is the difference between cleaning, sanitizing, disinfecting, and sterilizing?

  • Cleaning is the removal of debris such as organic and inorganic material from objects and surfaces.
  • Sanitizing is reduction of microorganisms on a surface, where some of the bioburden gets destroyed.
  • Disinfecting will kill most of the microorganisms on a surface, including viruses, bacteria, fungi and fungal spores.
  • Sterilizing is the killing or removal of ALL microorganisms, including bacterial spores, which are highly resistant.
  • Our disinfectants reach 99.999% kill rate of pathogens, which is considered the second highest level of disinfection.

5.  What type of technology would you recommend for my space?

That mostly depends on what kind of space you want to treat. The best way to answer this question is to do a pre-site visit and evaluation. Many of our residential and commercial customers use electrostatic spraying technology, which has the lower cost. UV Light is recommended to someone who is particularly sensitive to all other disinfection methods, and in locations where other methods are difficult to apply. To determine which method is suitable for your space, it is best to talk with one of our specialists. We will ensure that you receive the most thorough treatment possible for your needs.

6.  Are your products food safe?

Our products do not require a ‘rinse’ phase. Most products we work with are NSF-approved and certified, meaning they are safe to use on various types of food contact surfaces.

7.  Is fogging or electrostatic disinfection a replacement for in home cleaning and janitorial services?

NO. Our services are not a replacement for in home cleaning or janitorial services.  All fogging disinfection and decontamination services are designed to be used in a clean space. Fiber-Seal services are not a replacement for daily maintenance.  The higher the bioburden in a space the harder it will be to penetrate layers of dirt and grime to reach the surface. Even though our systems are proven to penetrate deep layers of biogrime, it is always best to start with a clean surface.

8.  Can I leave electronics in the room or home? Sensitive materials and fabrics?

YES! Our systems are designed to be used in spaces with sensitive electronics, monitors, phone systems, materials and fabrics.

9.  What is Smart Touch Disinfectant?

Formally listed by the EPA as VitalOxide, this product has been rated as a Category 4 (the safest rating the EPA has), which states “no exposure warnings required on label”. It still achieves a 5-log kill of 99.999% in less than 60 seconds for bacteria like eColi, Salmonella and Listeria.

10.  How much does your service cost?

Costs depend on the size of the job and the method we use. We calculate costs by square footage depending on the system that is best for your particular need. We have a variety of pricing plans to fit your budget.

11.  How long will your services take?

Each method takes a different amount of time but the entire process to treat a room can happen in as little as one hour.

12.  What germs can you kill?

13.  How do I know it's gone?

First of all, it will feel clean. Additionally, we will provide detailed report for your records if needed. ATP testing will provide proof of efficacy.

14.  I only need service in one area of my facility, can you do that?

Our services are scalable, meaning if you only want one area treated, we can do that. If you decide you need more when we get there, we will be prepared for that scenario as well.

15.  Are the chemicals you're using leaving harmful residues?

No, we only use products that will not form harmful residues. Most companies will want to use a quaternary ammonium to act as a method to continue killing germs. The problem with this is they are sticky and can make future germ reservoirs. They are also easily absorbed through the skin and are known allergens, NIH 2014. We will never use harmful quats as a residue. Instead, we rely on chlorine dioxide because it leaves no harmful residues.

16.  How long will it last?

The lasting results will vary depending on the traffic of your facility. Outbreaks are typically resolved with our treatment, but for proactive results, the best outcomes we see are between monthly and quarterly treatments. With the BIOPROTECT anti microbial protection certain bacteria will be inhibited for up to 90 days from growth.

17.  What is Electrostatic Spraying?

Electrostatic spraying is the process of spraying an electrically charged mist onto surfaces and objects. Electrostatic spray uses a specialized solution that is combined with air and atomized by an electrode inside the sprayer. Subsequently, the spray contains positively charged particles that are able to aggressively adhere to surfaces and objects. Because the particles in the spray are positively charged, they cling to and coat any surface they’re aimed at.

18.  How Does Electrostatic Disinfection Work?

Electrostatic spray is electrically charged, allowing the appropriate sanitizers, mold preventatives and disinfectants to wrap around and evenly coat all types of surfaces for a more complete clean. As the chemical exits the electrostatic sprayer, it’s given a positive electrical charge. The droplets then become attracted to all negative surfaces, covering the visible area, underside and backside, with the sanitizing agent. Surfaces that are already covered will repel the spray, making the method extremely efficient.

19.  What is UV Light treatment?

Ultraviolet light has a long history of killing microorganisms in the air and on surfaces. It has been proven to reduce the infection rates of MRSA, C. diff, VRE and other harmful pathogens. This technology has recently been made smaller and more powerful. As a result, it is now possible to use it in many more settings with greater efficacy. UV light is low impact, especially for the most environmentally discerning clientele. UV Technology can be deployed to fight off harmful germs, bacteria and viruses in any space. It is proven to be particularly effective when used in combination with other disinfection methods. UV light creates an environment where micro-organisms simply can not survive.

20.  What is the BIOPROTECT™ antimicrobial surface protection?

BIOPROTECT™ provides persistent and continuous protection for up to 90 days. It is a preservative antimicrobial coating that can be applied to both porous and non-porous surfaces to inhibit the growth of certain bacteria. The patented EPA listed technology uses self assembling monolayers to create a field of nano spikes that mechanically kill microbes (bacteria, molds, viruses) by piercing and rupturing their cell membrane. This kill method prevents the microbes from mutating and adapting, inhibiting the ability for superbugs to grow.

21.  How Does BIOPROTECT™ Work?

When applied to a surface or incorporated into a material, BIOPPROTECT™ forms a covalent bond with the substrate and creates a microbiostatic antimicrobial coating. The coating forms a nano-bed shield of spikes (self assembling monolayer), each of which carry a positive charge that attracts the negatively charged bacteria. Once attracted, the molecular spikes pierce the cell and rupture its cell membrane, causing that bacterial microorganism to die.

22.  How Long Does BIOPROTECT™ Last?

No rinse or wipe is required after application, even for food surface contact, and protection begins in 60 seconds after application and remains effective for up to 90 days.

23.  Can BIOPROTECT™  be used on porpus and non-porous surfaces?

Yes.  BIOPROTECT™ is a water based product so water sensitive materials need to be handled with care. It can be applied to almost any surface. A covalent bond forms with the applied substrate to ensure durability in multiple environments including water, solvents, and chemicals.

24.  Do you do any other types of disinfection?

What is the Curis Ultra Low Volume Misting Decontamination System?

The CURIS Decontamination System is the first portable, hydrogen peroxide-based fogging system capable of disinfecting a room or enclosed area via a pulse technology. While most systems rely on dispensing chemical and turning off once the desired time is achieved, or depend on manual spraying, CURIS goes a step further by focusing on a ‘maintained pathogen-kill zone.’ CURIS System is able to achieve a 6-log reduction of pathogens, which makes it the most effective disinfection method available in commercial use.
